MY BODY

The unit "My Body" is aimed at children in 1st grade of Primary Education for the area of Science.
In this unit children will learn:

-       - To know the parts of the body.
-       - To locate the joints.
-       - To know the 5 senses and the organs of those senses.
-       - To know the main bones and the function they have.
- To know the main muscles and the function they have.

To achieve these goals, the will do the following tasks:

1.    - The class will be divided into 4 groups. Each group must will prepare one poster of the different parts of the body (parts of the body and joints; senses and organs; bones; muscles). They must colour in the poster and fill in all the word labels connected to their poster. The posters and the word labels will be laminated and the labels will be put in the correct place with Velcro.
- In groups they must put all the labels in the correct place on the correct poster.

Sessions:
1. Review all the parts of the body they know. On the digital whiteboard they must join the words to the parts of the body, from the image bellow. We will also focus on joints, what main joints we have and why they are necessary. Then we will explain that the body is divided in 3 main parts: head, body and limbs. We will see what parts of the body are in the head, which are in the body and which are in the limbs. Then we give them a copy of the image, they glue it in their note book. We then wirte the words in English next to the word in Spanish. They copy in their note books.

2.  Senses and organs. We will talk about the 5 senses, what we use them for and what organs we use for each sense.

3. Learn bones. On the digital whiteboard we will see the image bellow. We will talk about the bones and their characteristics. Then we give them a copy of the image, they glue it in their note book. We then wirte the words in English next to the word in Spanish. They copy in their note books.
As they finish, we will review the content on the whiteboard with the following online activity: http://learningapps.org/display?v=pc83ju02a01

4. Learn muscles. On the digital whiteboard we will see the image bellow. We will talk about the muscles and their characteristics. Then we give them a copy of the image, they glue it in their note book. We then wirte the words in English next to the word in Spanish. They copy in their note books.

5. Review. The class will be divided into 4 groups. Each group will prepare one poster of the different parts of the body (parts of the body and joints; senses and organs; bones; muscles). See Human body posters. They must colour in the poster and fill in all the word labels connected to their poster. The posters and the word labels will be laminated and the labels will be put in the correct place with Velcro.

6. Review. In groups they must put all the labels in the correct place on the correct poster, using the human body posters from the previous session. Each group will be timed to see which group puts the word labels in the right place in the least time.

7. Evaluation. Fill in the charts worksheet. They must fill in the 2 charts. In the first chart they must identify the 4 main parts of the human body (head, body, upper limbs, lower limbs) and the joints, bones and muscles that we can find in each of these main parts. In the second chart they must identify the 5 senses and the organs that these senses use, and write their functions.
